118° Split Point (crankshaft point)
Split point is self centering and reduces the need for end thrust. Friction at work piece is reduced. 118º point angles are ideal for use in materials such as mild steel and cast iron. The 118º point creates easily controlled chips which are wide and thin.
Drill Bit Surface Treatment
Bright Finish Jobber Drills have no surface treatment and are supplied in the as-ground condition. These tools are suitable for general purpose use, particularly for non-ferrous applications.
Dill Bit Materials
High Speed Steel (HSS)
Bordo HSS jobber drills are ground from premium quality M2 high speed steel. HSS can withstand higher operating temperatures than carbon steel without loosing its temper (hardness). This allows HSS to cut faster than high carbon steel, hence the name high speed steel. M2 HSS is an alloyed steel in the tungsten-molybdenum series which typically contains 4% Chromium, 5% Molybdenum, 6% Tungsten, 2% Vanadium and 1% Carbon (approx. % by weight). The material is also subject to high temperature heat treatment to complete the process.
HSS has a very high wear resistance, a bending strength up to 4700MPa with toughness and themoplasticity.
HSS jobber drills are ideal for general purpose use in a wide variety of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, timber and plastic.
